SADUISME – Istituto Marangoni Scholarship Winning Collection

In a competition held by Istituto Marangoni Dubai – in collaboration with Harper’s Bazaar and Architectural Digest – individuals were tasked with exploring the modern application of a handicraft skill native to the gulf through the design process and a final outcome. I decided to explore the traditional Emirati weaving technique known as Al Sadu through a 12 piece fashion collection. When ideating, I put together moodboards and collages that fused the indigenous craft with visuals reminiscent of my upbringing in the UAE, to create a unique narrative and design language that brings the past into the future, and local to international. Thus, giving rise to my collection “SADUISME”.
